S'ultimu Attitu_Study#1 is a project based on the ancient tradition of the professional mourning.
S'ultimu Attitu_Study#1 is a short video realized as a first studio on funeral mournings. The “attitos” were the laments performed by Sardinian widows who had lost they beloved ones because of traumatic events.
It was shot during my residency at BAR Beirut Art Residency, where a group of seven local women of different origins, were asked to reenact some gestures that I had created starting from the material I had found during my research -sarcofagi’s bas-relief and pantings from ancient Egypt and Greece, pictures from the mournings rites performed in Italy in the 70ies, the few rare videos from Attitadoras in Sardinia in the 50ies, ethnological descriptions of the mournings themselves.
The video was realised with the help of Creative Space Beirut, a fashion design school for refugees –which lend me the clothes for the shooting.
The project was realised thanks to the help of the Roberto Cimetta Fund, an international association funding the mobility of artists and cultural operators in Europe and the Arab world.
Thanks to the fund I was able to cover my travel expenses to Beirut, where I spent 6 weeks as a resident of BAR -Beirut Art Residency.
