about me
Valentina Medda, a philosophy graduate from Sardinia -IT, trained in dance and visual arts and photography with a master's degree from the ICP -International Center in NYC.
Her practice, which lies at the intersection of image, performance and site-specific interventions inquires the permeable and porous boundary between body and space, in a constant attempt to transcend the distinctions, extending the body beyond the epidermis and making space corporeal. She is interested in "the points of contact, the expansions, the overlaps, the interpenetration, the traces taken up and re-appropriated and re-signified, the elements that compose and unite the body and its surroundings making it "a part of."
Her work has been exhibited in various national and international contexts, from Bologna, Milan, Cagliari to Paris, New York, Beirut, Brussels and Amsterdam, as a guest of galleries and Performing Arts Festivals. In recent years she has been artist in residence at, among others, the Beirut Art Residency in Lebanon, Cité de Arts in Paris, Flux Factory in NY, Les bains connective in Brussels, MaisonVentidue in Bologna. Over the past years she received the Tina Art PRIZE, the Cimetta Fund for artistic mobility, the PERFORM EUROPE grant and the Italian Council, the most prestigious Italian award, issued by the Ministry of Culture. She’s an artist supported by European funding network Stronger Peripheries -Southern Coalition. IN 2024 she won again the PERFORM EUROPE grant with the network Mediterranean crossing: a lamentation for the sea, to tour her last project The Last Lamentation.
